Recently I’ve wasted two DVD-R Dual Layer discs (5,90 PLN each in Carrefour! ;)) – growisofs first indulged me with the following error a while after starting:
:-[ PERFORM OPC failed with SK=4h/ASC=09h/ACQ=00h]: Input/output error
and then while recording another disc (after upgrading the kernel from 2.6.27 to 2.6.30) it reached 59% of an image about 8 GB large, when it said:
:-[ WRITE@LBA=b11ah failed with SK=4h/LOGICAL UNIT COMMUNICATION CRC ERROR (ULTRA-DMA/32)]: Input/output error :-( write failed: Input/output error
Googling that last error led me to a couple of posts which suggested… swapping the ATA cable linking the recorder with the mainboard with one that has 80 wires. That’s what I did and – imagine that – all discs were recorded fine ever since.
