Editing Windows registry under Linux

Recently I was looking for a way to export a piece of Windows system registry without launching the system itself (it was broken). The reged tool, part of the chntpw suite, came to the rescue. Registry files were placed in C:\Windows\System32\config. Running the command:

$ reged -e registry_file

resulted in displaying a simple text interface to basic operations like changing registry key values or exporting certain registry branches to REG files.
